The latest edition of the United States Helicopter Safety Team (USHST) newsletter features a republished 1995 article from Customs Today about one of the longest rescue operations ever recorded after the cargo ship Salvador Allende sank in 1994 in the North Atlantic Ocean. USHST industry cochair Chris Baur, then a captain in the US Air Force, took part in the rescue.

(Ottawa Citizen) – Special forces units will receive the first replacement helicopters starting in 2033 under Department of National Defence plans to update the existing fleet of Bell CH-146 Griffons.

(KSAZ) – The Gilbert Police Department is expanding the use of its fleet of around 30 drones to new roles, including as first responders.

SkyDrive has reached an agreement with Dubai, United Arab Emirates–based AeroGulf Services Co. for the purchase of 10 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for delivery in 2028 plus an additional 10 aircraft in 2029.

(KCNC) – Colorado Parks and Wildlife is wrapping up a two-month project using a helicopter to remove dead trees and stumps from Chatfield Reservoir south of Littleton.

(KSNW) – Gregg Lesh is a Kansas veteran who flew US Army helicopters, transported troops, and trained pilots during the Vietnam War.

(AirMed&Rescue) – Starting in May, Cleveland Metroparks will conduct a yearlong trial using drones to support emergency response, water rescue, and police operations.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued a revision to Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2025-0278, ATA 25 – Equipment/Furnishings – Emergency Sea Anchor Pin – Inspection/Replacement, which was released Dec. 24, 2025. The revision takes effect Jan. 21, 2026.
