(WTKR) – The James City County Police Department is partnering with Virginia Commonwealth University, Duke University, and the American Heart Association to decrease the time it takes to deliver automated defibrillators through the use of drones.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has determined that an instructor pilot became spatially disoriented when the helicopter inadvertently entered fog during a winch training exercise, resulting in a ground proximity alert when the helicopter descended below 150 ft. asl. The captain took control of the helicopter from the instructor pilot, initiated a climb, and exited instrument meteorological conditions.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has determined the probable cause of the accident to be the non-certificated pilot’s failure to engage the collective friction control during an on-ground engine run, causing the helicopter to lift off unintentionally. Investigators cited the pilot’s physical and mental conditions, and the use of potentially impairing medications, as contributing factors.

(AIN) – The Asia–Pacific region ended 2024 with 4,131 civil turbine helicopters in operation, reflecting a 1.6% increase over 2023 figures, according to a new civil helicopter report from Asian Sky Group. The growth, while modest, mirrors the annual average from 2019 to 2022 and aligns with a long-term trend of expansion.

(WCAU) – A medical helicopter went down May 19 into the front yard of a residence in Montgomery County. Three crew members escaped injury in the incident. Emergency responders and an official from Metro Aviation praised the pilot for directing the aircraft to an area without striking any people, homes, or vehicles on the ground.

Anduril Industries UK and Archer Aviation are adding Skyports Drone Services and AtkinsRéalis to a program that will explore potential civil and military applications for Archer’s Midnight electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, including cargo and beyond visual line of sight operations.
