In the latest edition of the US Helicopter Safety Team newsletter, Erik Feldmanis, US Army CW4 (Ret.) and CFI, provides helicopter pilots with tips for understanding signs and procedures at US airports.

The FAA is accepting comments through Jan. 30, 2026, on this airworthiness directive (AD), which would require visual inspections of the fork lever for cracks and the mixing-lever assembly for missing components, damage, or corrosion. It would also prohibit the installation of affected fork levers unless certain requirements are met. The AD becomes effective Dec. 31, 2025.

The operator plans to use the Valo electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft for passenger transport operations across the French Riviera starting in 2028.

The new VAI group is designed to support those who have entered the industry in the past six years.

This revised FAA special airworthiness information bulletin (SAIB) informs the aviation industry of potential nonconforming military specifications, US Army-Navy standards, and national aerospace standards fasteners. The SAIB applies to manufacturers, owners, operators, and maintenance personnel working with rotorcraft, airplanes, engines, and appliances. The bulletin also asks the aviation industry to report fastener failures and other nonconformities.

(Vertical magazine) – Hundreds of helicopter firefighting and utility professionals gathered last week in Boise, Idaho, for the annual VAI Aerial Work Safety Conference. “At VAI, our mission [in safety] is crystal clear,” said VAI President and CEO François Lassale. “We’re going to be pursuing better data, not for reports, but to save lives. The data will help operators benchmark themselves and identify risk before an accident happens. But that only happens with you. We’re building trust and transparency with an anonymous safety exchange, where people can ask, share, and learn without fear of judgment, because nobody in this room competes in safety.”
