In the September edition of VAI Flight Report, VAI Director of Regulatory Affairs Amber Harrison breaks down the recently proposed FAA rule that would enable beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations for unmanned aircraft systems. The proposed rule, also known as Part 108, introduces significant changes to how aircraft share the low-altitude airspace where vertical flight operations routinely take place.

The FAA has published updated helicopter route charts as part of its regular 52-day cycle, including permanent changes following the Jan. 29 midair collision of a military helicopter and a regional passenger jet near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA). The updates include changes to helicopter routes at KDCA and zones at Washington Dulles International Airport (KIAD) in Virginia and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (KBWI) in Maryland.
