British hospital marks 15 years of helipad upgrades

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, Shropshire, UK, is revisiting the story of how a Helicopter Emergency Landing Pads (HELP) Appeal donation led to an upgraded helipad in October 2009.

Final FAA AD: Bell 212, 412, 412CF, and 412EP

This FAA airworthiness directive (AD), which requires replacing all steel-alloy barrel nuts with nickel-alloy barrel nuts, replacing or inspecting other tail-boom attachment point hardware, repetitively inspecting torque, and repetitively replacing tail-boom attachment bolts, becomes effective Nov. 8, 2024. It also prohibits the installation of steel-alloy barrel nuts.

Final FAA AD: Various Bell 204, 205, and 210 helicopters

This FAA airworthiness directive (AD), which requires inspecting the tail-boom assembly hardware, replacing the tail-boom attachment hardware, greasing the bolt shanks, and inspecting torque for the Bell 204B, 205A-1, 205B, and 210, takes effect Nov. 8, 2024. It also prohibits the installation of steel-alloy nuts on any helicopter.

ATSB final report: Bell 204B, Queensland, Australia, Sep. 20, 2023

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has determined that the aircraft’s Bambi Bucket suspension cables became caught over the left-rear skid when the helicopter was on approach to a dam and during water collection, resulting in asymmetric lift loads and loss of control.
