NYC launches cargo drone trial with Skyports infrastructure The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has initiated a yearlong cargo drone trial with Skyports Drone Services and the New York City Economic Development Corp. (NYCEDC). The program will test middle‑mile transport of nonhazardous cargo, including medical, over the East River between Lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn Marine Terminal. Announced this week, the trial focuses on validating repeatable time-sensitive medical logistics in a dense urban corridor. The trial aims to advance urban air mobility logistics in the United States using real-world applied operations. The Port Authority’s involvement provides infrastructure access and operational oversight while Skyports brings operational expertise in drone delivery.
