Major NYC–NJ TFR impacts this weekend

Operators should plan for five overlapping temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) associated with POTUS (president of the United States) travel and the FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Friday, Jul. 17, and Sunday, Jul. 19.

Check NOTAMs before every flight at https://tfr.faa.gov/.

Friday, Jul. 17

• JFK/NYC TFR: 2:00–7:59 pm local
• Bedminster TFR: Begins at 6:30 pm and remains active until 2:45 pm Sunday
• The two TFRs will overlap Friday evening.

Sunday, July 19

• MetLife POTUS TFR: 1:00–8:01 pm
• EWR departure TFR: 5:30–7:15 pm
• MetLife Stadium security TFR: 12:00–1:00 pm and 7:59–9:00 pm.

Gateway screening will be required for aircraft arriving at or departing from Teterboro during the MetLife POTUS TFR. Screening will be available from 1:00–7:00 pm at TEB, LDJ, PHL, and ABE. Operators must register with the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at least 24 hours before their scheduled departure.

Aircraft operating within the affected outer rings must be on an active IFR or filed VFR flight plan, use an air traffic control (ATC)–assigned discrete transponder code, and maintain two-way communication with ATC. Do not squawk 1200 within an active TFR.

TFR timing and restrictions may change based on real-time events. This information is for awareness only. Operators should review the full NOTAMs and confirm current TFR status with the FAA or Flight Service before every flight.
