FAA eIPP reaches major milestone with 1st flight demonstration The FAA’s Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Integration Pilot Program (eIPP) reached a major milestone on Jul. 10 with its first operational flight demonstration, in Virginia. Hosted by the Virginia Department of Aviation in partnership with the FAA and BETA Technologies, the event featured a BETA aircraft transporting manufactured human organs approximately 275 nautical miles from Virginia to Maryland. The flight departed from Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport in Blacksburg, stopped at Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport, and continued to Frederick Municipal Airport and Martin State Airport in Maryland. The multistate partnership, led by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and joined by Virginia and Maryland, submitted the successful eIPP application. The demonstration showcased the use of a multistate corridor within the National Airspace System to transport organs developed by United Therapeutics, demonstrating the potential for advanced air mobility to improve healthcare logistics and regional transportation. This milestone represents progress not only for the 26-state multistate consortium, but for the entire eIPP cohort. Additional demonstrations are expected as the program expands across participating states. VAI will actively support our members and states as we drive implementation of the eIPP forward.
