Sweet Helicopters tops record for charter flights at Indy 500

As the official helicopter service provider of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Sweet Helicopters was tasked with transporting more than 500 customers to and from the brickyard for the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Utilizing a fleet of nine rotorcraft, Sweet Helicopters once again lapped its previous record for service provided, which was set at 450 customers in 2024.

“We’re always looking for ways to make charter flights more convenient and more accessible for both race fans and race team executives,” said Sweet Helicopters vice president of aviation, Tim Edmonds. “That hard work and professionalism was on full display on Sunday, as safety always remained paramount.”

Sweet Helicopters also aided IndyCar driver Kyle Larson’s attempt at the Memorial Day Weekend Double, allowing him to make a quick exit from outside IMS to catch his jet to North Carolina for the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race.

Bob Bailey, director of business development, said: “We were faced with scattered showers and one of the coldest Indy 500s in recent memory, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of race fans. It was a big day for our team, but they all did a magnificent job of accommodating every passenger’s needs.”

Even with the 40-minute rain delay and checkered flag at 4:56 p.m., Sweet Helicopters completed its final flight and wrapped up operations by 7:15 p.m.

Bailey added, “After watching the high-speed, adrenaline pumping action of the big race, it can be frustrating for fans to then find themselves stuck behind the wheel of their own vehicle sandwiched into bumper-to-bumper traffic. Sweet Helicopters charter flights help erase those headaches.”

Anyone interested in taking advantage of this safe and convenient service should register to be notified when 2026 seats become available.
