HAI President and CEO James Viola kicked off the Feb. 11 HAI@Work webinar with some sage advice: “Knowing how to respond to winter operations helps determine whether you fly another day.” Both panelists, Kevin Vinatieri, flight instructor and safety officer at California Highway Patrol, and Scott Boughton, owner of Palisade Aviation and vice chair of the HAI Training Working Group, agreed and provided insights of their own.
Vinatieri discussed the importance of setting personal limitations as well as his team’s top three preparation considerations before flying: weather, performance, and plan. Boughton offered a treasure trove of advice and tips every pilot flying in cold weather should heed, including what personal gear and survival equipment to carry, how to identify where icing can happen, and much more.
