HAI@Work: USHST Roundtable on 56 Seconds to Live

During the Apr. 15 @HAI@Work webinar, our expert panel of Scott Tyrrell, continued operational safety specialist / accident investigation at the FAA; Bruce Webb, director of aviation education at Airbus Helicopters; Tim Tucker, longtime helicopter pilot and flight instructor; and Gordon Jiroux, president and CEO of Universal Helicopters, agreed that the best tactic to mitigate the risk of unintentionally entering instrument meteorological conditions (UIMC) is AVOIDING those conditions in the first place. This candid discussion also covered topics such as high-profile UIMC accidents and the panelists’ first-hand experiences with IMC; common errors that pilots make; and resources that can better prepare pilots to recognize, avoid, and recover from UIMC. The panelists also revealed details about the upcoming USHST 56 Seconds to Live Awareness and Prevention Online Training Course as well as the USHST’s plans to continue the discussion at HAI HELI-EXPO 2022 in Dallas.
