During the Apr. 29 HAI@Work webinar, our audience heard from representatives from two companies that contributed to the success of the #marshelicopter. Sean Johnson of Toray Advanced Composites and Benjamin Pipenberg of AeroVironment walked us through the process of designing the advanced composites and blade shapes necessary to achieve flight in the thin Martian atmosphere. Following the webinar, our panelists also addressed in a Q&A session the audience’s burning questions such as: what are the cones that are found on the rotor blades, are there erosion control strips on #Ingenuity’s rotor blades, how much wind can the helicopter sustain, and much more!
