Vertical Aviation International (VAI), formerly Helicopter Association International (HAI), announces the appointment of Theresa Marr as its new director of government affairs.

Most recently with the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, Marr will focus on increasing advocacy efforts and strengthening VAI’s presence on Capitol Hill, ensuring that VAI’s voice is heard in key legislative discussions and that the interests of the vertical aviation community are effectively represented.

“As a private pilot, attorney, and experienced aviation lobbyist, she is a valuable addition to VAI’s advocacy efforts,” says Cade Clark, chief government affairs officer at VAI. “Her experience, passion, and commitment to powering up vertical aviation are an asset for VAI and the entire vertical aviation industry.”

Marr is currently learning to fly helicopters and joins VAI ready to tackle her newest role. “I’m thrilled to be part of the VAI team and to work alongside such a dedicated and collaborative group of professionals,” says Marr. “I’ve heard incredible things about the organization and am truly grateful for the warm welcome I’ve received. I look forward to working together and making a positive impact on the future of vertical aviation.”

Marr brings a unique blend of aviation and legal expertise to VAI. After earning her private pilot’s license while studying aviation at Kent State University, she pursued a law degree at Duquesne University School of Law. During her legal education, Theresa gained valuable experience interning with both the FAA and the Department of the Interior’s legal departments. After passing the Maryland bar, she joined the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association (AOPA), where she not only advocated for pilots but also expanded her aviation skills by flying helicopters.

Marr is the second staff member to join VAI in the past month who is both a lawyer and pilot. VAI recently hired Amber Harrison as director of regulatory affairs, who is working with state and federal aviation regulators.
