FAA makes changes to MedXPress system in response to industry feedback

Based on important feedback from industry stakeholders, the FAA made changes to the MedXPress system to speed up the medical certificate process.  This is the first of many steps the FAA plans to implement to make the process clearer and faster. We’ll keep you updated on our work and look forward to continuing our collaboration with you to get the word out, writes US Federal Air Surgeon Susan Northrup, MD, MPH.

What the FAA Did

The MedXPress landing page now includes links to key resources including information on how to use the system, FAQs, and the Guide for Aviation Medical Examiners (AMEs).

Why the Change Was Made

This will help applicants “pre-flight” the process and ensure they provide complete medical packages. A significant contributor to delays in the aeromedical process is requests for additional information.

How It Works

Prompts in the screens encourage applicants to research the requirements for addressing any medical conditions they may have. In addition, first time applicants can learn about the program and procedures before they go to the AME. This will help applicants bring all required documentation to their AME for direct upload into the FAA medical review process.
