iStock/Simonkr VAI 2027 scholarship program now open Awards are available for students, professional aviation mechanics/engineers, and commercial helicopter pilots. VAI is offering four scholarships for 2027 to help students, aviation maintenance technicians, and commercial helicopter pilots continue their education and training. Mechanic/Engineer and Student Scholarships • Robinson Pete Riedl Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Scholarship: Presented by Robinson Helicopter Co., this scholarship honors the late, longtime Robinson engineer. The winner receives full tuition to attend an aviation maintenance course from the OEM. • Bill Sanderson AMT Scholarship: This scholarship awards full tuition to attend a maintenance course from airframe and powerplant (A&P) manufacturers, including Airbus, Bell, Leonardo, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, and Safran Turbomeca. • Bell 505 B2 Integrated Avionics Maintenance Technician Scholarship: Presented by Bell, this scholarship is awarded to an individual who has held an A&P license for any length of time or to an individual who has finished avionics technician training within the past two years. Winners receive full tuition to attend Bell’s 505 B2 Integrated Avionics Maintenance Course. Commercial Pilot Professional Development Scholarship • Michelle North Scholarship for Safety: This scholarship provides full tuition for the recipient to attend a safety management course offered as part of VAI’s Professional Development Program at VERTICON 2027. The scholarship was established in memory of Michelle North, a helicopter safety expert and educator. All award recipients also receive a complimentary full registration to VERTICON 2027 (formerly HAI HELI-EXPO) for the recipient and a guest (hotel and travel expenses are the responsibility of the scholarship winner and guest).
