VAI joins coalition backing legislation to protect FAA in future US government shutdowns

The Modern Skies Coalition released a statement of support Nov. 19 for proposed US House of Representatives bills that would ensure air traffic controllers and other FAA staff are paid in the event of a future government shutdown. “We strongly support Chairman Moran’s bill (and the House companion bills introduced by Representatives Cohen and Bean) to shield the FAA from funding lapses by allowing the agency to draw from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund during a shutdown,” the coalition says. “We also strongly support the bill introduced by Chairman Graves and Ranking Member Larsen which would draw on monies paid by aviation users to continue critical FAA functions.”

Final FAA AD: Airbus Helicopters EC225 LP

This FAA airworthiness directive (AD), which takes effect Dec. 26, will supersede AD 2019-19-13, issued Oct. 21, 2019. The updated AD will continue to require the actions from the existing AD while expanding the applicability by adding additional part-numbered main-rotor gearboxes, changing the requirement to determine the total hours in service of a certain freewheel shaft, requiring repetitive replacement of the main-rotor gearbox or the right-hand freewheel shaft, changing the requirements for who can replace parts, and expanding the parts installation limitation conditions.
