(Vertical magazine) – Through May 1, the number of US wildfires is 50% above normal and the acreage burned is twice as much as the 10-year average.

The FAA has issued a proposed rule that would allow specific categories of critical US infrastructure sites to apply for restrictions on drone operations around their facilities. The FAA would approve restrictions based on safety or security criteria. The rule would apply to 16 sectors, including energy production, transportation systems, chemical facilities, water treatment plants, and defense industrial complexes. The agency is accepting comments through Jul. 6 on the proposal.

During the inaugural VAI Southeast Asia Aviation Safety Conference, Bruce Webb of Airbus Helicopters and iwiation’s Marcus Bauer will present an interactive case study about lessons learned from a January 2023 midair accident in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
