VAI Daily May. 7, 2026 FAA outlines proposal to restrict drones near critical infrastructure The FAA has issued a proposed rule that would allow specific categories of critical US infrastructure sites to apply for restrictions on drone operations around their facilities. The FAA would approve restrictions based on safety or security criteria. The rule would apply to 16 sectors, including energy production, transportation systems, chemical facilities, water treatment plants, and defense industrial complexes. The agency is accepting comments through Jul. 6 on the proposal.
